Art as a Focal Point

Add a series of picture ledges to a wall for an instant gallery! This enables you to change your pictures with out nailing additional holes in your wall. It also makes an instant focal point!

If these Walls Could talk

If these Walls Could Talk

If our walls could talk, they would beg us to hang art on them! How do you convince your significant other that it is okay to hang your art on the walls? Sometimes it’s the fear that too many holes will be in the wall due to mistakes-not so! Yes, you may get some holes in your walls, but with some care each hole will have a nail with art hanging from it. It does take some time and patience to hang art. Here’s how I do it;

Get out all the art you are wanting to hang. Think about hanging it in groupings, rather than haphazardly here and there. A grouping also draws you eye to the art, and actually can make it a focal point. I play with arrangements on the floor, and trace all the frames onto manila paper. Then, transfer your paper arrangement to the wall using blue tape, and be sure to mark where the nail holes will go. Make sure you like your arrangement and check that everything is level. Hammer in your nails, remove the paper, and hang your art!

Children's Art

I have a lot of clients who have an interest in hanging their children's art. I love this idea and am a big advocate of it! There is a wonderful company that can turn your children's artwork into a variety of products such as prints, cards, tote bags, water bottles, mouse pads, tiles, and many other items. Check out www.SilverGraphics.com for the opportunity to transform yours or your child's art into keepsakes.

Rotate Your Art

Art can play a big part of decor-I know it does in my home. The great thing about art is that it doesn't have to be high end. Sometimes people tend to think that they can't afford art. But really, art can be anything you see as beautiful to your eye, no matter the price. I love art so much, that I have "art in waiting" meaning it's waiting for a open space to be hung! We suggest that you rotate your art with the seasons or just when the mood arises. I know I do this, because I have so many pieces that I just love. Also, not all framed art has to be hung on the wall. It can be "layered" on a mantle or against a wall for a gallery effect.

Elegant, Affordable Art

Want some elegant, affordable art? Here's an idea, purchase a picture book of a subject you're interested in- for example, botanical art or the Great Masters of Art. Cut the pictures out of the book at the spine, and take them into a frame shop to frame. I have done this in my office with botanical prints, and I framed them with the inexpensive glass frame less frames. This is an elegant look, and it also allows the prints to really be seen, since there is no frame around them, only glass. For inexpensive books try Half Price Books, or http://www.uppercasebooksandcollectables.com/. Uppercase Books is also having a sale the month of October-30%-70% off all books! Hey, at that price you could even pick some up for reading!
